Samsung Galaxy S8: How to Change Default Volume Key Control in Android 7.0 Nougat

By default, the default volume key control in your Samsung Galaxy S8 is set to ringtone, which means your phone will adjust the ringtone volume when you press the volume up key or the volume down key. If needed, you can set these keys to adjust the media volume by assigning the default volume key control to media.


How to set the default volume key control to media?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Tap Sounds and vibration.
  3. Tap Default volume key control and then select Media.
  4. Now, when you press the volume up or down keys, your phone will adjust the media volume.

How to enable or disable the keyboard sound feature in the Samsung keyboard?
As the example, we'll turn on or off this feature by using two different methods: from the settings menu and from an app or screen where you can enter text.

Method #1: From the settings menu.
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to the screen to find Sounds and vibration and then tap it.
  3. Scroll down the screen to the Key-tap feedback section and then tap the ON/OFF switch next to Keyboard Sound to enable or disable this option. When the switch turns , means the keyboard sound feature is enabled and your phone will play a sound when you're tapping the Samsung keyboard.


Method #2: From an app or screen where you can enter text
  1. Go to the app or screen where you can enter text, e.g., when composing a new text message in the Messages app.
  2. Long tap the key in the left side of the space bar and then tap  to quickly go to the Samsung keyboard settings.
  3. Scroll down the screen to the Key-tap feedback section and then tap the ON/OFF switch next to Sound to enable or disable this option. When the switch turns , means the keyboard sound feature is enabled and your phone will play a sound when you're tapping the Samsung keyboard.

Doorbell detector is one of accessibility features in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that will let you set your phone to notify you with vibration, visual cues, and light when it detects the sound of a doorbell ringing that you record in advance. This feature is basically designed to help those who have hearing impairment to easily know when there's someone rings the doorbell.


How to enable the doorbell detector feature?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to find Accessibility and then tap it.
    FYI, if you have enabled the direct access feature and selected the accessibility option, you can quickly access the accessibility menu from any screen by pressing the Home key three times quickly to open up the direct access menu and then tap Accessibility.
  3. Tap Hearing.
  4. Tap Sound detectors.
  5. Slide the ON/OFF switch next to Doorbell detector to the right to enable it. FYI, this feature cannot be turned on while you're playing sound or using apps/features that use your phone's microphone, e.g., voice recorder app, voice dictation feature, etc.
  6. A Disclaimer window appears on the screen. Scroll down the screen to review it and then tap Confirm to continue.
  7. A pop up window contains with some information about the doorbell detector feature appears on the screen. Read it and then tap OK to continue enabling this feature.
  8. Tap and ring your doorbell to record it. Your phone will detect and record the doorbell. For the best result, keep your phone within 50cm of the doorbell and make sure the area is quiet.
  9. When the doorbell sound has been recorded, tap and ring your doorbell again to confirm and check recorded doorbell sound.
  10. When your phone detects your doorbell sound, tap OK button. This icon will be displayed on the status bar as a sign that the doorbell detector feature is enabled and ready to use.
  11. If you'd like to change the doorbell sound, tap Change doorbell sound in the sound detectors menu and then follow the on-screen instruction to complete the configuration. This will delete the current doorbell and replace it with the new one.


How to use the doorbell detector feature?
As a note, to make this feature works, make sure to place your phone within 3m of your doorbell with no background noise. See the following steps as the example of using this feature:
  1. When your phone detects the doorbell sound, your phone will vibrate and give you a visual notification as well as flash the camera light(in condition that the flash notification feature is enabled). If you have a Galaxy Gear smartwatch and have paired it with your phone, it'll also vibrate.
  2. Tap to disable the doorbell detector feature and stop your phone from vibrating.
  3. Tap to re-enable and start using the doorbell detector feature.
  4. If you'd like to view the log(date and time) of the alerts, you can view it in the Recent alerts section in the Sound detectors menu.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable Mono Audio Feature in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

By default, the sound output in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is set to stereo audio, which means you can hear the sound with two earphones. However, if you have certain hearing difficulty which makes you can hear well with your left or right ear only, or when you feel more comfortable when using one earphone, you can switch audio from stereo to mono to have your phone combines stereo sound into one signal so you can hear with single earphone better.


How to switch audio from stereo to mono?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to find Accessibility and then tap it.
    FYI, if you have enabled the direct access feature and selected the accessibility option, you can quickly access the accessibility menu from any screen by pressing the Home key three times quickly to open up the direct access menu and then tap Accessibility.
  3. Tap Hearing.
  4. Scroll the screen to the very bottom and then slide the ON/OFF switch next to Mono audio to the right to enable this option. When the switch turns blue , means the sound output mode is set to mono audio to let you hear better when using one earphone.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Adjust Left/Right Sound Balance when Using Headset in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

By default, the sound output in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is set to stereo audio so you can hear the sound with two earphones. However, if you have certain hearing difficulty that makes your left ear hears better than the right or vice versa, or when your headset has problem so it cannot produce a balanced sound output between left and right sound, you can fix this problem by adjusting the left/right sound balance so you can get the best setting for your hearing.


How to adjust the left/right sound balance when using headset?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to find Accessibility and then tap it.
    FYI, if you have enabled the direct access feature and selected the accessibility option, you can quickly access the accessibility menu from any screen by pressing the Home key three times quickly to open up the direct access menu and then tap Accessibility.
  3. Tap Hearing.
  4. Scroll down the screen and then slide the sound balance adjustment bar to the left or right until you get the best setting for your hearing.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable and Use Baby Crying Detector Feature in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Baby crying detector is one of accessibility features in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that will let you set your phone to notify you with vibration, visual cues, and light when it detects a baby crying. If you have some hearing difficulties, this feature can be used to help you easily know when your baby is crying.

Important:
  • Baby crying detector feature would work best when you place your phone within 1m from your baby in silent background noise.
  • Baby crying detector feature is intended to be used as a parenting aid and not as a medical device or a substitute for human care giving.
  • Make sure you don't leave your baby in a home or place unattended while using this feature.

How to enable the baby crying detector feature?
You can do so by using the following steps:
