Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Enable and Use Preview Message Feature in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

If you don't want to miss any important message even when your phone's screen is locked, you can enable the preview message feature to have your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge displays the sender and a short preview of the received message on the status bar and lock screen. It will be able to help you easily know if it's an important message without you have to open it first in the stock Messaging app so you can do the required action as soon as you read the preview.

How to enable the preview message feature?
You can turn on this feature by using the following steps:
  1. Open the stock Messaging app.
  2. Tap More at the top right and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Notifications. If Notifications is off, slide the ON/OFF switch to the right to turn it on. The switch turns green when it's enabled.
  4. Slide the ON/OFF switch next to Preview message to the right to enable it. When the switch turns green , means the preview message feature is enabled and your phone will show you the sender and a short preview of received messages on the status bar and lock screen.

How to use the preview message feature?
You can use the following steps as the example of using this feature:

1. When the screen is locked(it works when the display option for notifications on the lock screen is set to show content).
When a new text message arrives, your phone will display the sender and a short preview of the received message in your lock screen. If needed, tap the message preview and then perform your unlock method(e.g., fingerprints, PIN, password, etc) to open the message in the stock Messaging app.

2. When the screen is not locked.
When a new text message arrives, your phone will display the sender and a short preview of the received message will be displayed on the status bar. If needed, you can do some further actions, e.g., calling the sender of the message or reply the message by using these steps:
  • Swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel.
  • Tap Call in the message preview to call the sender of the message.
  • Tap Reply in the message preview to open and reply the message in the stock Messaging app.
