Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Separate Joined Contacts

Samsung Galaxy SIII has ability to retrieve contacts from various sources. These multiple sources sometimes makes you end up to have duplicate contacts that will make you have difficulty when you want to call them or send message to them, and also this of course will make your phonebook be a mess. Fortunately, there is an option in Contacts apps that will allow you to merge some identical contacts into one.

But, in certain case, you may have joined contacts by mistake or you want to unjoin the contact you've already joined before. If so, you can split them as individual contact by utilizing an option called separate contacts directly through the Contacts apps.

How to split joined contacts?
Kindly follow the steps listed below to do so:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Tap Contacts.
  3. Tap Contact tab.
  4. Tap the required joined contacts you wish to split.
  5. Tap the Menu key.
  6. On pop up menu select Separate contact.
  7. Now you'll see a list of joined contacts that can be separated.
  8. Tap the Red minus sign(-) next to the contact to separate this contact.
  9. Tap OK button to confirm separation.
  10. Finish. Now have managed to unjoin joined contacts.

In addition to separate joined contacts, you can also use this methods to separate contact with multiple numbers. So, hope this helps :)

  1. Hi
I have a problem. I can delete, join and separate contacts without any problems. BUT by mistake, dont ask me how, I managed to merge to FB accounts plus another contact together under one name and now I cant separate them. I press the minus button and it says it has separated them but it doesnt do it. It works on all other contacts. Have I managed to "lock" this contact somehow so I cant edit it? Please help as I am getting desperate as I use all of these contacts a lot...

    1. Hi Kristina Unsworth,
      Thanks for coming.
And I'm so sorry for too late answer.
Given to your information, you can try to remove your Facebook account from your phone in order to get rid the FB contact from your Contacts app. You can do so through the Settings> tap Accounts tab> Tap your Facebook account and then remove it. Or, through the Contacts app by tapping the Menu key then select Accounts and then delete your Facebook account from here.
